Lifts to overcome architectural barriers

Most people are used to using stairs, going up or down one or two steps, or to spaces with a certain height difference. However, it is often overlooked that this type of access can be practically impossible for people with restricted mobility.

Lifts to overcome architectural barriers

This is why stairs are often referred to as "architectural barriers" and it is very important to facilitate access for anyone who has to walk in these places. To this purpose, the best option for accessibility in buildings is the installation of lifts to overcome architectural barriers.

Accessibility in buildings, how to facilitate it?

Structurally modifying a passageway with stairs can be an unfeasible option, both architecturally, functionally and economically. It is better, in these cases, to install special platforms that help to eliminate architectural barriers, making them fully passable, and thus facilitate the autonomy of those who have some kind of disability or reduced mobility. The proposal is to offer a specially designed platform in accordance with the needs of both the people who will use it and the person who will contract this service.

Those who require the use of a lift to access an upper floor or to descend can be people with different movement restrictions, both temporary and permanent. For example, from a woman who is pregnant or carrying a baby or pram, to a person who uses a cane, crutches or wheelchair. In any of these cases, it will be essential that they have access to a system that allows them to enter or exit that place in total comfort, with zero risk, that is easy to use and safe.

That is why Hidral offers solutions to overcome architectural barriers. These are devices that adapt to the type of structure that is sought to save or avoid. For someone who has reduced mobility and needs to carry out some kind of procedure or purchase in a place with several levels, it is impossible to do so when encountering stairs. Fortunately, the lifts available not only solve this problem, but also do not require any modification to the structure of the space and will not get in the way of those walking on the stairs.

Types of stairlifts or stairlift platforms

Hidral offers you two basic types of lifts, although as manufacturers, we can develop totally personalized designs.

Platform stairlifts SH

This system is designed for those who use a wheelchair and need to overcome this architectural barrier, with the facility that can be straight or curved sections. In the case of straight sections, the SH200 and SH300 models are available, which are motorised and can support a load of up to 300 kg maximum. The speed is smooth, avoiding vertigo or dizziness (0.1 m/s), as well as being very safe. It is for stretches of up to 8 m and the angle of inclination ranges from 20 to 45°.

For longer travels, there is the SH Omega model, with a load capacity of up to 300 kg and a maximum travel of 85 m.

PH vertical platforms

This type of stairlifts can be for open or closed shaft. In the case of the PH-300 vertical platform, it is open shaft and is designed for short distances such as those where there are slopes. This system - which does not require a pit - is for 90° and 180° shipments and has automatic vertical displacement protections. It is for a load of up to 300 kg and up to 15 m travel.

But if you are looking for an enclosed shaft platform for two levels and where there is no more than 4 metres between them, the PH-400 vertical platform is the best. It is compact, has an 80 cm pit and uses a small ramp for access and boarding at 90 or 180°, and does not require a machine box. It is for a load of up to 400 kg and a maximum speed of up to 0.15 m/s.
